Biography

Nick Davies is a writer, producer and commentator on arts and culture, and has worked within Wales’ cultural sector for over 25 years. He is the main Wales correspondent for The Stage, the world’s longest-running theatre publication, and contributes to a range of arts platforms including the BBC and Museums Wales.

Alongside his writing, Nick has developed and produced cultural activity across Wales, with a focus on bringing together communities and creative practice.

As a theatre and TV scriptwriter, he has written drama for the BBC, StoryFirst Media (formerly Pinewood Studios), Triongl, S4C, Theatr na nÓg and Theatr Brycheiniog. He was the winner of the BAFTA Rocliffe initiative for new scripts. He received a doctorate from Swansea University in English and Creative Writing. In 2026, he became the first Lead Welsh Culture Scout for Welsh National Theatre (co-funded by BBC Cymru Wales), supporting pathways for emerging talent in drama. He previously worked for 17 years at the Arts Council of Wales as Portfolio Manager for the performing arts.

Expertise

Nick works with Stage Management students to develop their understanding of the theatre and performance landscape in Wales, ensuring they are aware of the breadth, quality and diversity of the sector. He sits on panels where students pitch production concepts and budgets, as well as viva panels. He also tutors MA students undertaking dissertations, supporting them in presenting ideas clearly and developing structured academic arguments.

Notable achievements

Nick is the winner of the BAFTA Rocliffe Award for scripts aimed at younger audiences and is the only Welsh writer to have received this recognition. His work is regularly featured in The Stage, and he is frequently engaged as a cultural commentator on BBC Cymru Wales.
