Ali de Souza is an educator, actor-trainer and theatre and screen director from Coupar Angus, Perthshire via Santos, Brazil where his mother was born and raised. Before joining the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Ali was the Director of Drama at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School from 2022.
He has worked extensively as an actor and director in both theatre and film for over 35 years with many companies throughout the UK. He taught acting and directing at Queen Margaret University for six years and became Programme Leader for BA Acting there before joining the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland as Associate Head of Acting in 2008.

He has a strong interest in cross-collaborative and shared practices between acting and musicianship and at RCS was instrumental in many new developments including acting for screen, collaborations with music, and de-colonising curriculum. He is deeply committed to rigorous training, enabling students to become their very best selves and succeed in the profession.
He has a particular interest in the relevance of teaching Shakespeare to the modern actor, acting fundamentals, theatre for young people, musical theatre, digital enhancement in performance and acting for the screen.
As well as teaching, he has held masterclasses and short courses in Acting, Shakespearean Acting, Greek Theatre and How to Audition for Drama School in cities all over the world including Boston MA, Chennai, Chicago, Mumbai, Munich, New York, Oslo, Paris, Rijeka and St. Petersburg. He has toured theatre productions to Beijing, Kaohsiung (Taiwan), Kazan (Russia) and Spoleto in Ital
