Biography

Dr. Fiona McAndrew is an internationally experienced performer, academic, clinical counsellor and high-performance voice teacher and coach.

She holds a PhD from the University of Melbourne (Music Psychology), a Master of Counselling with Distinction from Monash University, a PG Advanced Diploma (Opera Course) from Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London and a First Class Honours degree in Psychology (University of Western Australia).

She has held senior academic and teaching roles at leading universities and was Deputy Head of Opera and Lecturer in Musical Theatre at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (W.A.A.P.A.) in Perth.

Expertise

After graduating from the Opera Course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama she pursued a career as a singer, performing principal roles for companies and festivals, television and radio including Semperoper Dresden, Teatro Comunale Bologna, Rossini Opera Festival Pesaro, Opera Ireland, New Zealand Opera, Belfast Festival, Covent Garden Festival, Dresden Festival, Perth Festival, Wexford Festival Opera, English Touring Opera, Opera Holland Park and in recital on BBC, RTE and ABC Radio.

She plays the title role in the film of Michael Daugherty’s opera Jackie O.

She has developed an international therapy and counselling practice for elite performers and worked in Performance Psychology; Vocal teaching (Classical and Musical Theatre); Clinical counselling and music psychology research.
