Brett Robinson is a graduate in Law, Italian and German from Cardiff Law School, the Università degli Studi di Pavia, Northern Italy as well as the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. He also holds a BA in French and Spanish as well as Post Graduate degrees in Voice and Translation Studies.
A proud polyglot, languages are Brett’s real passion in life. He has worked at the RWCMD since 2014, teaching the Italian language to vocal students on both Undergraduate and Postgraduate degree programmes.
Brett has also worked as a producer and translator for the BBC and enjoys regular collaboration with BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition as a language coach and interpreter.
As a singer, he has worked with many of the main companies in the UK, including Welsh National Opera, Opera North, Garsington Opera and Grange Park Opera. Brett also has a particular interest in collaborative translation for singing and is planning his doctorate on ‘Translaboration’ and Opera.
As a teacher, he enjoys working with all voice types and particularly the challenge of introducing new students to the Italian language. He is passionate about the importance of languages at the college and the pivotal role they occupy in a singer’s development.
