Secondary schools and colleges
We offer an exciting range of tours, talks, workshops, creative projects and exhibitions for secondary schools and colleges – all aimed at getting students inspired by art and music.
We also provide education resources for teachers featuring interviews with some of the cast and creative team from our recent productions.
Discover RWCMD talks, tours and exhibitions
Help your students experience what life is like at RWCMD. Whether you visit us in Cardiff, meet us online or arrange for us to come to your school, there are lots of ways for your students to explore our music, drama and backstage courses.
We offer:
- A tour of our North Road campus or Llanishen workshop
- A talk given by prominent members of staff and current students, ‘Discover studying at a conservatoire'
- An opportunity to sit in on a rehearsal or lunchtime performance
- An opportunity to attend a free exhibition
- An online Q&A session for your students
- A visit to your school or college to provide a range of talks and attend events there (depending on where you're based)
Bespoke workshops and creative projects
We offer a range of workshops for secondary schools and colleges, tailored as much as possible to the needs of particular pupil groups. We can visit your school or college (depending on where you'rebased), or you can visit us.
In drama workshops, we aim to build young people’s self-confidence, social skills and creativity in a safe and supportive environment. All of our staff are professional actors, directors, designers or industry specialists.
In our music workshops, we showcase a range of styles from classical to jazz and musical theatre. These often involve our talented undergraduate and postgraduate students who are developing professional outreach skills as part of their studies.
You can request:
- A drama, music or backstage workshop menu
- A pre- or post-performance Q&A with our performers (if your student group is attending a paid performance)
Open days
Our open days offer students a great opportunity to experience the College and soak up the atmosphere of our main building, which is not only a leading music and drama conservatoire but also a vibrant arts centre staging 500 public performances a year.
Come and explore our campus, meet our friendly staff and students, and experience what it's like to study and live in the vibrant city of Cardiff.
'A big thank you from us. We, staff and students, were blown away by the day.
The kids and we as staff were talking about the RWCMD for the whole rest of the weekend – and even today when back in school, kids are still asking me questions! [...] Not a single moment wasn't brilliant.'Pete's Grammar SchoolCheltenham
Education resources for teachers
Our educational packs for teachers feature exclusive interviews with key members of the cast and creative team from our recent productions and projects.
Featuring exclusive recordings of the play means that your students can experience RWCMD performances online for the first time.
The talented students involved in these productions share their insights and perspectives on the creative process, their character development and performances in an extended interview.
The interview questions, carefully crafted in accordance with WJEC’s GCSE Drama specification, ensure a relevant and enriching experience for both learners and teachers.
