Rooted in shared values and a commitment to excellence, inclusion and opportunity, this partnership connects Wales’ national youth ensembles with its national conservatoire to create a powerful pathway from early talent development to professional artistic careers.
Building talent pathways
NYAW and RWCMD will create clearer and routes for young people to progress from youth arts activity into professional training and careers.
Through joint working, we will
- Provide mentoring and guidance for emerging artists
- Create opportunities for young people to engage with conservatoire-level training
- Explore new national ensembles and structures aligned with the National Plan for Music Education in Wales
These pathways help bridge the gap between early experiences in the arts and the professional arts industry.

NYAW and RWCMD are committed to ensuring that opportunities reach every part of Wales. NYAW and RWCMD are helping to shape a stronger, more inclusive and more vibrant future for the arts in Wales.
This partnership delivers music projects for young people, including ensemble playing, singing, and specialist instrument workshops. It develops activity across regions in Wales including the North, Mid, and West Wales, as well as at RWCMD’s Cardiff campus. The programme also supports young people to engage with a wide range of art forms, including classical, jazz, folk, theatre, and dance.

National Youth Arts Wales (NYAW) aims to empower the next generation of musicians, actors, dancers and makers to build a creative, confident and generous future for Wales. It is the charity responsible for Wales's celebrated national youth ensembles in theatre, dance and music – with members from every Welsh county.
NYAW is committed to inclusivity, ensuring that all young people, regardless of their socio-economic background, have access to these transformative experiences. Supported by Arts Council Wales, the National Music Service of Wales, Creative Wales and others, NYAW plays a pivotal role in the cultural landscape of Wales.
