Biography

As well as teaching on courses in Design and Acting at the Royal Welsh College, Steve Blandford is also Emeritus Professor of Theatre, Film and Television at the University of South Wales. He holds visiting Professorships at Cardiff Metropolitan University and the University of Winchester.

Expertise

He has published widely on British theatre, film and television including, most recently, Theatre and Performance in Small Nations (Intellect, 2012) ‘Jimmy McGovern’ (Manchester University Press, 2013) and contributions to the edited collections, ‘The War on Terror’ Post-9/11 Television Drama (2015) and Cops on the Box, Contemporary British Crime Drama (2017).

In 2012, he led a team that produced a report for the BBC Trust entitled, ‘Screening the Nation’, about the impact on Wales during the production of Doctor Who and related television drama in Cardiff. Steve is a published playwright and has directed for theatre.

He was a founding trustee of National Theatre Wales and was on the board of Zoom, the International Festival of Young People’s Film. He is currently a trustee of Chapter Arts Centre and chairs their Artistic Programming and Learning Committee. Until 2013, he was the Director of the Centre for the Study of Media and Culture in Small Nations and remains on their steering group.
