Allie Edge began her career in Mid Wales, designing costumes for Theatr Powys and the award-winning Mid Powys Youth Theatre. She originally moved to Cardiff to study, completing a Foundation Course in Art & Design and a BA (Hons) in Theatre Design. Allie has worked at RWCMD since 2001 as well as pursuing a successful freelance career working in theatre, film and television since 1992.
Her most recent work for film has been for RWCMD graduate Tom Cullen in his directorial debut Pink Wall, staring Tatiana Maslany and Jay Duplass.
Allie’s position at the College involves managing the Costume Department, supervising students working across all productions, maintaining links to the industry for student placements and graduate employment, delivering costume skills and contributing to the development of the BA and MA Design for Performance courses. She is also the External Examiner for the BA and MA Costume courses at the Arts University Bournemouth. Her freelance work includes Costume Design and Styling for TV, film, music videos and commercials as well as theatre and dance.
Allie’s research work investigates the ways in which costume design influences the devising process and vice versa. Through her relationship with the Berlin based company Dorky Park, she has designed costumes for projects in Wales, China, Germany (Schaubühne, Berlin) with extensive international tours, and a contemporary ballet in Argentina, (Teatro Colon Opera House, Buenos Aires). The work brings together actors, dancers, musicians, and artists from a wide range of genres and countries, combining text, video, live music and dance, with costume being intrinsic to the devising process.
