Lecturer in Production & Design (Costume)
Allie Edge began her career in Mid Wales, working for Theatr Powys and the award-winning Mid Powys Youth Theatre. She moved to Cardiff to study at Cardiff Metropolitan University (formerly UWIC) and RWCMD, completing a Foundation Course in Art & Design (1992), a BA (Hons) in Theatre Design (2000), a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (2004), and a Foundation Certificate in Photography (2014).
Allie has worked at RWCMD since 2001 as well as pursuing a successful freelance career working in theatre, film and television since 1992. Her position at the College involves supervising students working on productions, organising the Costume Department, providing links to the industry, teaching costume skills and contributing to the development of the BA and MA Design for Performance courses. Her freelance work includes costume design and styling for TV, film, music videos and commercials as well as theatre and dance.
Allie’s research investigates the ways in which costume design influences the devising process. Through her relationship with the Berlin based company Dorky Park, including projects in China and Germany in 2015 (Schaubühne, Berlin) and Argentina (Opera House, Buenos Aires) in 2016, she has explored European methods of working. Her most recent work for film has been for RWCMD graduate Tom Cullen in his directorial debut staring Tatiana Maslany and Jay Duplass.
