Booking information

While we provide warnings about content which may cause discomfort or trigger physical reactions, such as gunshots, strobe lighting, nudity and strong language, we are also conscious that giving away too much plot information risks spoiling the powerful moments that make shared artistic experiences so thrilling and thought provoking.

<ul><li>The Welcome to Wales installation will cover themes surrounding refugees, dislocation and relocation of groups and individuals from several countries. </li></ul>
<ul><li>The opening 3 sections of the installation depict paintings of groups of refugees arriving in Cardiff at the turn of the 20thcentury. There are paintings of groups of refugees as they prepare to be cleaned on arrival and looking for employment. </li></ul>
We are aware that these images may cause distress to some individuals who have lived experience as refugees.
<ul><li>We acknowledge that some people may find themes within the artwork upsetting. </li></ul>
<ul><li>The Artwork itself is not graphic in content and the paintings are non-naturalistic portrayals of people of that time.</li></ul>
<ul><li>The overarching theme is of how Wales has been a welcoming home for many generations of migrant communities. </li></ul>
<ul><li>The final message is one of welcome, acceptance and hope.</li></ul>
<ul><li>The Stringer Studio, which is housing the installation in the Old Library, is very spacious and will allow individuals to easily step away from the installation if they were in any way upset by the content and are feeling overwhelmed. There will be ushers on hand to direct individuals to a quiet space, if required. </li></ul>
<ul><li>At 12 noon and 3:30pm each day, there will be performances from RWCMD musicians, professional musicians and local community groups. Their work will focus on themes of migration, refugees, homeland, dance, Welsh countryside and Cardiff. These will not be seated performances and individuals will be free to move around the installation whilst they are taking place. </li></ul>
<ul><li>The installation is accessible by stairs and a lift, making it suitable for wheelchair users. There will be signage leading up to the installation and staff members on hand to speak to if needed. </li></ul>
