BBC NOW’s Robert Plane is new Head of Woodwind Performance

We’re delighted to announce that Robert Plane, who’s been a clarinet teacher at the College for the last twenty years, is our new Head of Woodwind Performance.

Robert, currently Principal Clarinet of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales joins in his new job in September.

'I can’t wait to welcome new and returning students, staff and guest artists to our state-of-the art-facilities as soon as we are able, to strive for the very highest standards and to fulfil each student’s potential across the whole spectrum of what it means to be a musician. There will be no limits to my ambitions for the department and all those in it.'

During the current Covid-19 lockdown you may have seen Rob performing socially-distanced concerts with the Cardiff Street Orchestra, which boasts no less than four members of staff from the College, taking its message of hope through music worldwide. Rob has already been on Radio 4’s Today programme and the forthcoming BBC’s Ross Kemp: Britain’s Volunteer Army.

This week the College also announced that Kate Stokes Davies, current Director of Communications and Stakeholder Relations at Qualifications Wales, is the new Director of External Affairs.
