Ali de Souza has been announced as the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama’s new Head of Drama Performance
Ali is currently the Director of Drama at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, having previously worked for many years at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where he was instrumental in many new developments including acting for screen, collaborations with music, and de-colonising the curriculum.
‘Ali is deeply committed to the College’s values of rigorous training, enabling students to become their very best selves and succeed in the profession.
With his wide-ranging experience in acting and musical theatre training, shaping artistic programmes, and connecting with industry, Ali is no stranger to working with the fast-changing industry and societal change, including financial pressures, and a forward-looking approach.
I also want to thank Jonathan Munby, who is leaving us as Director of Drama Performance, and acknowledge how much he has brought to RWCMD over the last five years, and how I have really valued his artistic work, and the ways in which the focus of the training has developed and blossomed.
The brilliant paths that our graduates are taking tell their own story. We know he remains a firm champion of the College, and we look forward to welcoming him back to work on projects with us.’Helena GauntRWCMD Principal
‘I am delighted, excited and honoured to be joining RWCMD.
I hope I can contribute to the College's wonderful reputation here in Wales, nationally and on the world stage, building on the impressive successes that Jonathan and his team have achieved over the past few years, and strengthening the relationship between music and drama.’Ali de Souzaincoming Head of Drama Performance
