Welsh language Services

At the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, we are proud to support and promote the Welsh language across a range of our outreach, recruitment, and student engagement activities.

Workshops and community engagement

We offer school and community workshops in Welsh, across both Music and Drama disciplines.

A Welsh-language Music workshop for schools is currently in development, demonstrating our ongoing commitment to Welsh culture and education.

Recruitment and outreach in Welsh

Our 'Study at RWCMD' talks and campus tours for schools can be delivered through the medium of Welsh.

We are able to communicate entirely in Welsh with some schools throughout the course of a partnership or outreach project where our team can support young people in exploring creative futures in their first language.

We regularly send Welsh-speaking staff to Welsh-medium schools for recruitment events such as careers fairs.

We also ensure a strong Welsh language presence at national events like the Urdd and National Eisteddfod, where our Welsh-speaking representatives are available to engage with prospective students and their families.

Open days and admissions

During our Open Days, Welsh speakers are available at registration and admissions points to assist visitors in Welsh.

Those who select the option to communicate in Welsh when booking will receive advance information about the Welsh-language support available on the day.

Arts centre

RWCMD is a bilingual arts centre with bilingual welcome desks, signage, programme notes and public announcements. Whether you’re attending a performance or taking part in a workshop, you’ll find the Welsh language represented throughout the College.

We also support performances in Welsh, as well as Welsh-language surtitles for relevant productions, helping to make the College’s artistic output inclusive and accessible.

We are continually developing and expanding our Welsh-language provision, not just to meet the requirements of the Welsh Language Standards, but to actively promote the language and create a welcoming, inclusive environment for all. Whether you are visiting, studying, working, or performing with us, we want you to feel at home in the language of your choice.
