Young People's Production Arts

Young People’s Production Arts offers opportunities to explore Technical Theatre, Stage Management and Design, for young people aged 11-18.

Our courses and masterclasses give creative young people the opportunity to gain a real insight into drama school training and the wider ‘backstage’ industries. Specialist classes are delivered by a variety of professionals, in skills including lighting, sound, stage management, prop making, costume and set design.

Autumn Term

Interested in how theatre productions and live events are put together? Then our Masterclasses are for you. Explore the exciting world of working backstage and the multiple career pathways that are available, hosted by industry professionals in our specialist facilities.

The Masterclasses are not a course, each one will be a standalone, so you can book as many or as few as you wish according to your interest. Booking will open soon for our next Masterclass Series.

Spring Term

Young People’s Production Arts Spring Season of events include taster days and short courses offering opportunities to explore Technical Theatre, Stage Management and Design.

Designed to give young people aged 11-18 an opportunity to further develop and explore skills in specialist areas of the backstage industry.

Ready to get hands on? Throughout each day participants will have the chance to try a variety of backstage roles and skills in a series of hands-on workshops with specialist tutors who are working professionals.  No previous experience is necessary - just an interest in getting creative, an enjoyment of making things, and a willingness to get stuck in!

This Easter, we have great opportunities for anyone who is interested in learning some of the skills required for careers in: Theatre and Film Set Design, Costume Design, Art & Design, Illustration, Puppet/Prop Making, Fashion, Lighting Design, Sound Design or Stage Management.

Masterclasses

Costume & Make up, 20th April 2022, 10am - 4pm. £15

Discover how costume designers transform a performer into a character. Ages 15- 18 Book your place 

Masks and Props, 21st April 2022, 10am - 4pm, £15

An exciting opportunity to explore, design and build your own custom mask and props. Ages 11-14 Book your place 

Technical theatre, 22nd April 2022, 10am - 4pm, £15

Come and explore our beautiful performance spaces and develop your interest and technical knowledge within lighting, sound and special effects! Ages 11-18 Book your place 

Summer Schools

Want to get hands on? YPPA’s Summer Schools are open for booking! Explore the skills and processes a production team undergo in an immersive project at our beautiful campus in Cardiff. Working with a group of specialist tutors you’ll learn how to create the world of a production in one of our two specialist pathways.

Workshops include; developing design concepts, prop making, scenic art, technical drawing & presentation skills.

How to Apply

There is no audition for YPPA Masterclasses or Summer Schools. Places are allocated on a first come, first served basis and can be reserved via this webpage.

Young People’s Production Arts is committed to giving every young person aged 11-18 with a passion for theatre, the opportunity to benefit from the specialist drama training delivered by RWCMD, regardless of experience or financial means.
