Young People’s Production Arts offers opportunities to explore Technical Theatre, Stage Management and Design, for young people aged 11-18.
Our courses and masterclasses give creative young people the opportunity to gain a real insight into drama school training and the wider ‘backstage’ industries. Specialist classes are delivered by a variety of professionals, in skills including lighting, sound, stage management, prop making, costume and set design.

Spring Term
Young People’s Production Arts Spring Season of events include taster days and short courses offering opportunities to explore Technical Theatre, Stage Management and Design.
Designed to give young people aged 11-18 an opportunity to further develop and explore skills in specialist areas of the backstage industry.
Throughout each day participants will have the chance to try a variety of backstage roles and skills in a series of hands-on workshops with specialist tutors who are working professionals. No previous experience is necessary - just an interest in getting creative, an enjoyment of making things, and a willingness to get stuck in!
During Easter 2023, we will have great opportunities for anyone who is interested in learning some of the skills required for careers in: Theatre and Film Set Design, Costume Design, Art & Design, Illustration, Puppet/Prop Making, Fashion, Lighting Design, Sound Design or Stage Management.

Summer Schools
Explore the skills and processes a production team undergo in an immersive project at our beautiful campus in Cardiff. Working with a group of specialist tutors you’ll learn how to create the world of a production in one of our two specialist pathways.

Design for Performance Pathway
Workshops include; developing design concepts, prop making, scenic art, technical drawing & presentation skills.
Technical Theatre Pathway
Workshops include; lighting design and operation, sound design, special effects and stage management skills.

How to Apply
There is no audition for YPPA Masterclasses or Summer Schools. Places are allocated on a first come, first served basis and can be reserved via this webpage.
