Biography

Adrian Thompson was born in London and educated at Wandsworth School where he first came into contact with Benjamin Britten and Peter Pears as a member of the famous state school choir. Further study was at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where he studied with Duncan Robertson. From the age of seventeen, Adrian studied with Ian Partridge and continues to be indebted to him to this day

Expertise

In a career of over forty years, Adrian has sung with many opera companies and orchestras in the UK and abroad, notably Welsh National Opera, English National Opera, Royal Opera House, Frankfurt, Darmstadt, Strasbourg, La Scala Milan, Netherlands Opera and Canadian Opera Company.

Recent performances include House of the Dead (Janacek) in both Savonlinna and Brno at the Janacek festival. Eisslinger (Die Meistersinger) Glyndebourne, Monostatos Scottish Opera, Emperor (Turandot) Toronto.

Adrian also sang a Britten birthday recital with Michael Pollock at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama last November. Future performances include The Ring both in Germany and London with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and The Maid of Pskov at Grange Park.

Notable Achievements

He has made many recordings including a volume of Schubert songs with Graham Johnson. Adrian has also recorded On Wenlock Edge by Vaughan Williams and The Curlew by Peter Warlock. Adrian has worked with many well-known conductors including Bernard Haitink, Carlo Rizzi, Colin Davis and Vladimir Jurowski.
