Biography

Nigel Seaman studied tuba at the Royal Manchester and Royal Northern Colleges of Music and joined the orchestra of Welsh National Opera in 1975 before moving to the Principal Tuba chair of BBC National Orchestra of Wales two years later. Following 33 years of service he retired from the orchestra in 2010. Nigel has been a member of the part time teaching staff at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama since 1977 and has seen first-hand the remarkable progress made on campus in the intervening years.

Expertise

During his career he has also built up a reputation as a conductor, trainer and adjudicator of brass bands, frequently working with local groups as well as travelling throughout the UK, Europe, Far East and Australasia. In 2018 he conducted the Wellington (NZ) band to victory in both the Australian and New Zealand championships. He is also very proud to be the Musical Adviser to Cory Band, RWCMD’s Band in Residence
