Biography

John Anderson has over 40 years of experience as a principal oboist with major ensembles such as the BBC Symphony Phiharmonia and Royal Philharmonic Orchestras. He is now busy as a studio player recording music for film and TV. Recent projects have included The Dig and The Witches.

Expertise

He has held the post of Professor of Oboe at the Royal College of Music since 1995 and has been a regular visitor to the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama for over twenty years. Former students of his have enjoyed success in this country and abroad. John has given masterclasses in the UK, Japan, China, Canada and Singapore. As a soloist he has recorded the Strauss Concerto with the BBC SO and the Philharmonia and made two versions of the Mozart Concerto with the Royal Philharmonic and English Chamber Orchestras. He has also recorded concertos by Martinů, Jean Françaix and Volkmar Andreae. His album of Venetian baroque concertos has received critical acclaim as well as being frequently broadcast worldwide. At present he has ninety-five solo tracks listed on Spotify.

John has appeared as a soloist in the Bach Oboe and Violin Concerto in this country and abroad with Pinchas Zukerman, Maxim Vengerov and Nigel Kennedy. As an orchestral player he has collaborated with many of the world’s finest conductors, composers and soloists.
