How to apply

RWCMD is a space for everyone and we welcome applications from students of all backgrounds and/or disabilities. Our team would be delighted to answer any questions you may have about our courses or the application process and to discuss any additional requirements you may have.

When should I apply for a place?

We welcome applications for all courses between March and July for the upcoming academic year.
Use this link for a list of term dates.

  • Mini Music beginners' courses are subject to minimum numbers and start dates are available in September and, usually, April. Email us about availability of places and to submit an application at any time.
  • For those applying to the Junior Conservatoire Step 4 course after August, please be aware that some areas of your course may not be available until the following academic year (e.g., chamber music).

How do I apply?

Applicants for Mini Music (Step 1) are required to submit a completed application form.

Applicants for our Music First (Step 2) and Junior Conservatoire courses (Steps 3 and 4) are required to submit:
• a new recording of their playing according to the instructions given in the next section.
• a completed application form.

Both a recording and a completed form are required for your application to be processed.

We aim to confirm the outcome of your application within six working weeks.

Need to know

Financial support

We are committed to giving as many young people as possible the opportunity to benefit from the specialist training delivered by RWCMD, regardless of background or financial means.

Thanks to the generosity of many friends and supporters of the College, families can apply for a means-tested bursary which can help pay fees and may cover up to 100% of the total course fees. We place great importance on making all our courses accessible to young people who are dedicated to music, with over 50% of current learners receiving financial assistance. We urge you to take advantage of the generous support available.

Our Young Musicians bursary application cycle usually ends in the July preceding September entry. Those interested in applying for a bursary after July for the upcoming academic year are asked firstly to contact us to check if any remaining funding may be available and/or for details of external funders to whom you can apply.
