Coronavirus: Keeping You Safe

Welcome back to the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama.

With a brilliant line up of artists and shows on offer this year, we’ve taken some extra steps to ensure you feel comfortable and are able enjoy our full programme. Please read the information below, to keep you and others around you safe.

Before your visit:

  • Do not visit RWCMD if you have COVID-19 symptoms
  • Ensure you have a valid NHS COVID Pass/ or have taken a lateral flow test 
  • Where possible, print tickets at home or use an e-ticket/mobile to minimise contact
  • Arrive no earlier than 20 minutes before the start of your event

During your visit please:

  • Show a valid NHS COVID pass or negative lateral flow result
  • Check-in to NHS Track and Trace
  • Where possible, maintain social distancing
  • Wear a face mask at all times
  • Use the hand sanitisers provided

Entrance will be through the main doors of the Carne Foyer. Our welcome hosts will be available to welcome you back and help guide you through our keeping you safe measures.

NHS COVID PassNHS Covid Pass

In line with Welsh Government guidelines, you must show a valid NHS COVID Pass or a negative lateral flow test result (taken within 24 hours) to attend ticketed performances at Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama.

We do accept COVID passes from outside the UK, such as the EU Covid Certificate or an equivalent. We cannot accept COVID vaccination cards (given at vaccination centres) as proof of vaccination. Trouble getting your COVID Pass? Please read the NHS FAQs.

Please note, we are unable to permit access if you do not present the valid information. 

We advise that you download your NHS COVID pass to your phone, or print, ahead of your visit to avoid any delays.


Track and Trace

Please ‘check in’ to RWCMD when you visit our venue, through the NHS Track and Trace system. The venue’s QR code will be displayed on entry.

If you are contacted by NHS Track and Trace, it’s because you have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. Please follow the instructions provided.

If you do not own a smart phone, we will be able to accommodate you. 


Social Distancing 

Please maintain social distancing, where possible, in public areas around RWCMD.

Please note, from January 2022, only a small selection of performances will be socially distanced. Please refer to the event webpage for full details.

Where distancing is in place within the performance spaces, seats in the rows in front or behind may be in use. Please refer to the event seating plan for details.


Face Coverings RequiredMask Required

Masks must be worn in all areas of the venue before, during, and after the performance for all aged 11+ (except for those with an exemption from wearing a face covering for health reasons).


Advance Booking

Tickets can be booked online or via our Box Office. Where possible, please print your ticket at home or use an e-ticket/mobile to minimise contact and reduce queuing.

There is no limit on the number of tickets that you can book. Please note, seats are mainly bookable in groups of two, with plenty of single seats also available. Large groups may have to sit separately.

Our seating plans may look different to what you are used to, and your regular seats may not be available. Please refer to the seating plans when booking online or speak to our box office about availability.

Staggered entry maybe be required for some performances, please refer to your ticket for information and check any pre-show information you receive.


Feeling Unwell?

If you are feeling unwell and are showing any of the COVID-19 symptoms, please do not attend RWCMD.

If you do feel unwell, please e-mail We will refund you your ticket or we will give you a credit to use on a future performance.


Cashless Ordering

Where possible RWCMD will operate as a cashless venue to minimise contact. If you can, please use your debit or credit card. If you do not own a bank card, we will be able to accommodate you.



If there is an interval during the performance, please remain seated and our guides will ensure that you can exit and re-enter the auditorium safely.


Hygiene and Toilets Hand Sanitisers

Please use our hand sanitiser on arrival. Sanitising stations will also be available throughout the building.

We have enhanced cleaning systems in place throughout RWCMD.

Social distancing will be in place in our toilet facilities and lifts, and these spaces will be monitored to ensure safety. We will increase interval times, where required, to reduce queuing.


Food and Drinks

A limited drinks and bar snack service will be available pre-show and during intervals. Please see more information on our Café Bar page.

The Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama has been See It Safely approved.

RWCMD has been granted the use of Society of London Theatre & UK Theatre’s See It Safely mark. The mark certifies that we are complying with the latest Government and industry COVID-19 guidelines, to ensure the safety of our staff and audiences.
