"You don't need to be ashamed. This instrument has quite the same effect on all our patients. Sometimes they laugh and weep all at the same time. They often call for God"

It is the 1880s and the dawn of the age of electricity. In a seemingly perfect, well-to-do Victorian home, proper gentleman and scientist Dr. Givings has innocently invented an extraordinary new device for treating "hysteria" in women (and occasionally men): the vibrator. Chaos prevails as the new therapy affects the entire household.

Sarah Ruhl's funny and tender play was nominated for the 2010 Tony Award for Best Play and selected as a finalist for the 2010 Pulitzer Prize.
