You need your RWCMD ID card to borrow physical items from the Library. External borrowers should see the information about joining as a member.

Please note that all audio/visual materials and journals are on short loan, so not available to non-RWCMD borrowers.
Types of loan
All of our items can be kept for an academic year at a time (without fines) if not requested by anyone else. However, items will issue for a set period each time and this is the date by which you should expect to return them until you have either renewed yourself or received confirmation that they were automatically renewed. These are the typical loan periods:

If you owe more than £10 or have an overdue item requested by another borrower, you will not be able to borrow or renew until this has been resolved. In addition, borrowers are asked to clear all debts at the end of each term. Please see our page about fines and fees for further information.
We consider all requests from other libraries to borrow our material through the Interlibrary loan service. Please speak to your local library, who will need to contact us with full details, including a British Library customer code, delivery and contact details.
Please see our opening hours for times when items can be returned to the Issue Desk. We also have a book returns bin in the Students’ Union, which is opened after 9am every week day (and items are returned for the day before).
Please note: we ask that items with multiple parts are returned together. Items will not be returned from accounts until all parts are received.
We recommend that you don’t leave items unattended or at Reception, since we will charge for any loss or damage. For the same reason, if you are away from Cardiff and need to return items urgently, we advise sending as securely as possible and packing carefully. Please clearly address items for the ‘Library’ and include your name so that we can check your account.
