To apply for entry to the MA Design for
Performance programme in September 2020, you will need to use the
UCAS Conservatoires service at www.ucas.com/conservatoires.
Applying Through UCAS Conservatoires
The UCAS Conservatoires (previously CUKAS) system was originally
set up to accept applications for music programmes at
Conservatoires, to ensure you are not confused by certain
terminology please read the information below.
- The UCAS Conservatoires Institution Code for the Royal Welsh
College of Music & Drama is R59 and the Course
Code for MA Design for Performance is 712F.
- When applying, you will be required to select a main
'specialism/discipline', please select your preferred pathway
for this list: Performance (Set & Costume Design), Set Design,
Costume Design, Costume Construction, Puppetry, Lighting Design,
Sound Design, Scenic Art and Construction for Stage and Screen.
- Within the application you will be asked for details of your
'practical/music referee'. For the Design for Performance programme
this should be a practical reference written by your lecturer, Head
of Department, or any other person who can comment on your
practical design skills and abilities.

The website will allow you to manage your application using a
unique username and password. You can access the service 24 hours a
day from anywhere in the world to create, submit and monitor the
progress of your application.

application form in order to give us as full a picture as possible
of your relevant experience and reasons for applying.
For entry on to the MA Design for Performance programme in
September 2020 you can apply through UCAS Conservatoires from
September 2019. The deadline for applications
is 27 March 2020. (Please note the deadline for
applying for a music course at RWCMD is different). Interviews will
be held in April/May.
We are sometimes able to accept late applications through
UCAS Conservatoires if places still exist. Please contact the
College directly for advice on late applications.
Applying from Outside the UK
There is a
UCAS Conservatoire Guide for international applicants.
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an interview.
You will need to bring a portfolio of work to discuss at your
interview. The tutors will ask you about your particular interests,
practical experience and career aspirations. You will also have the
opportunity to ask specific questions related to the programme.
