Concerts & Open Afternoons

The Junior Conservatoire runs over thirty concerts and events across the academic year, including our popular free Lunchtime Concerts which take place most Saturdays from 1.45-2.30pm – email us for dates.


Junior Conservatoire Concerto Competition, Saturday 27 January 2018, afternoon

Join our talented children and young people from 2pm as they compete for the opportunity to perform a concerto with the Junior Conservatoire Orchestra. Email us for more information.


Big Bash Percussion Day, Saturday 3 February 2018, 10am-5pm

Join the staff and students of the College’s percussion department and special guest stars O Duo as they bring you the Big Bash, a high energy day of workshops, clinics and performances for players of all levels. Individuals £10, groups of 4 or more £5 each.

Brass Band Workshop with Dr Robert Childs, Saturday 10 February 2018, 9.30am-2pm

Dr Robert Childs, international conductor, leads an action-packed day of great music making, with works including Star Wars and Pirates of the Caribbean, culminating in an informal Lunchtime Concert. Open to brass players of Grade 5 standard and above. Admission Free.

Harp Day, Sunday 25 February 2018, 10am-5pm

A day of fun and a day of learning for harpists of any level! Join RWCMD’s harp teachers and students, have fun meeting new friends and learn clever tips and good ideas about how to practise and improve your harp playing. £20 per participant.

Join Nick Carpenter, the College’s new Head of Wind, for an amazing afternoon of wind ensemble playing alongside the talented students of the junior and senior departments. Open to all wind players of Grade 5 standard and above. Admission Free.

Open Afternoon & Tours

The next Junior Conservatoire Open Afternoon will be on Saturday 28th April 2018, from 2.30pm-4.30pm. We warmly invite you to call in, meet staff, tour the buildings and visit some workshops and activities featuring current Junior Conservatoire students. Join talented Junior Conservatoire tutors and students for open workshops in piano, voice and jazz, including informal performances and ensemble work. Workshops are suitable for pianists Grade 5 and above, and singers and jazz musicians aged 11 plus with some sight reading ability.

Junior Conservatoire/National Youth Guitar Ensemble of Great Britain Open Guitar Afternoon, Saturday 28th April 2018, 2.30-6.30pm

Open to players of all levels and genres, tutors from the Junior Conservatoire and National Youth Guitar Ensemble lead group performing activities culminating in an informal showback. Come along to have fun and make new friends.

Ready Steady Sing workshop with the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain, Saturday 9 June 2018, 1-4pm

Join in an action-packed Ready Steady Sing! workshop delivered by a top NYCGB conductor aimed to get young singers aged 7 to 12 of all abilities using their voices, and their bodies! Admission free.
