Montgeroult's Etudes

Royal Welsh College pianists

French composer Hélène de Montgeroult has been described as the ‘missing link between Mozart and Chopin’. Born into an aristocratic family, outliving three husbands, abducted by Austrian soldiers in Italy, and escaping the guillotine in revolutionary Paris, Montgeroult was also a radical composer whose music was years ahead of the explosive times in which she lived. Our pianists guide us in an exploration of some of Montgeroult’s 114 etudes, revealing the rich and dramatic musical legacy of a female composer whose importance is only now being acknowledged.

This performance will be socially distanced.
