Mahan Esfahani & Manchester Collective: Automata

01:00 pm |

The harpsichord is an exquisite machine. It’s an instrument of contradictions – completely mechanised but totally expressive. Mahan Esfahani has made a career exploding stereotypes around the harpsichord, and Laurence Osborn’s piece Coin Op Automata does just this. Fusing string quartet and harpsichord into one musical machine – it's sometimes jerky, sometimes broken, but always compelling.
