Julie Barclay

Julie trained as an actor at the Welsh College of Music and Drama from 1981-84 and is a professional actor and director as well as teacher. As an actor she has worked in BBC Radio Light Entertainment and with Hull Truck Theatre Company, Leeds Playhouse, Sherman Cymru, Northcott Theatre Company, the English Speaking Theatre Company of Copenhagen, Theatr Iolo, Theatr Ffynnon, Theatr y Byd, Hijinx Theatre and Theatr na nÓg. Most recently she has appeared in A Cold Spread by Katy Owen; The Censor by Anthony Neilson in Chapter Arts Centre Cardiff and Bath Theatre Royal, Romeo and Juliet with Black RAT Productions at The Gate and in a touring production of Spanish Lies written and directed by Frank Vickery. Film and television appearances include the BAFTA Cymru nominated film Watch Me!, Tess of the d’Urbervilles, Torchwood, Good Arrows directed by Irvine Welsh and Belonging for BBC. In the spring of 2013, Julie will be playing the title role in Sherman Cymru’s production of Maudie’s Rooms by Louise Osborn. Julie has directed for Sherman Cymru’s Script Slam, Cwmni Theatr 3D, Dirty Protest Company, Sherman Youth Theatre, the Welsh Fargo Stage Company and for the Shakespeare Schools Festival and is co-founder of Be:spoken Theatre. She has taught at Coleg Glan Hafren on the BTEC National Diploma in Performing Arts Course and at RWCMD lecturing in Contextual Studies and run workshops and directed productions for Llanover Hall Youth Theatre and Sherman Youth Theatre. Julie also runs a successful business working one-to-one with young actors who are auditioning for drama schools/colleges.
