Short Courses

As well as the main Young Actors Studio Acting Courses and Theatre Workshops, we also provide a number of shorter courses and summer schools, offering you an opportunity to develop key skills in a fun, friendly and supportive environment. Participants will work in in small groups with others of a similar age, building your experience and confidence together.

In the past these have included workshops in Improvisation, Storytelling and Working with Text as well as courses in Acting for Camera, Approaches to Shakespeare and Approaches to contemporary text. We have also staged a number of Audition masterclasses for those preparing for Drama School auditions.

Audition Masterclass with Jamie Garven

Saturday 18th or 25th November

This one-day masterclass gives prospective drama students a unique opportunity to work with Jamie Garven, Senior Acting Lecturer at RWCMD and the person responsible for managing the audition process for the College. It is ideal preparation for those people considering applying to RWCMD or to other drama schools, giving participants the chance to gain practical advice on their monologue choice and audition technique.

Do I need to prepare?
Participants must learn in advance two speeches (one contemporary and one classical) each no more than 2 minutes long.

About your tutor
Jamie trained as an actor at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art. He began his directing career with Spectacle Theatre in the early 80s and since then has directed productions for Theatr Powys, Hijinx Theatre, Theatre West Glamorgan, Perspectives Theatre, Made in Wales Stage Company, Moving Being, Theatr Clwyd, Sherman Theatre Company, Citizens Theatre Glasgow, Nottingham Playhouse, Fiction Factory, Opera North, National Youth Theatre of Wales and the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama.

Jamie is a Senior Acting Lecturer at RWCMD, and also manages the audition process for applicants to the acting courses.
