The dying rays of Strauss’ glorious Four Last Songs have come to symbolise a whole era in romantic music. Tonight David Jones and the Royal Welsh College Symphony Orchestra plunge into a sea of huge emotions and glorious colours, from the sweeping life-and-death drama of Strauss’s Death and Transfiguration to the pastoral beauty and roof-raising triumph of Sibelius’s epic Second Symphony.
