Playhouse Creatures

Tue 30 Mar - Sat 3 April

The year is 1669 - a bawdy and troublesome time, with theatres having just reopened after seventeen years of Puritan suppression. This juicy historical drama looks at the period during Charles II’s reign when, for the first time in England, women were allowed to perform on stage. Playhouse Creatures focuses on five of the most famous of the time - Nell Gwyn, Elizabeth Farley, Rebecca Marshall, Doll Common and Mary Betterton.

A rollicking story full of earthy comedy and feminine heartbreak.
