In a gritty drama that earned a torrent of rave reviews during both its 2005 New York debut and 2008 run in London, Stephen Adly Guirgis’s fierce writing contemplates faith and spirituality by reimagining the gripping trial of the Bible’s most notorious traitor. As the protagonist’s fate hangs in a purgatorial world between Heaven and Hell, his immoral actions are scrutinized through a time-bending plot, which is elevated by moments of farcical comedy.
