Fees and Funding
Undergraduate Tuition Fees (UK and EU
Students)
The annual tuition fees for UK and other EU students on all
undergraduate courses at the Royal Welsh College of Music &
Drama are fixed by the Welsh Assembly Government in line with other
universities and colleges in Wales. The tuition fee for 2010/2011
is £3,290. There is a range of support in place to help you cover
the cost of your tuition, the details of which will depend on where
you normally live.
If you normally live in Wales
If you normally live in Wales and choose to study at a
university or college in Wales, you are entitled to apply for
financial support to cover the cost of tuition fees and the cost of
living. You can apply for an Assembly Learning Grant, the value of
which is dependent on your household income. You do not have to
repay this money. For 2010/11 the value of the grant is up to
£5000.
You can also apply for a Student Loan which is composed of two
parts – a maintenance loan and tuition fee loan. The maintenance
loan is for living expenses. The amount you receive depends on your
household income and where you study. The money is paid directly to
you. The tuition fee loan pays for your tuition fees. The amount
you receive does not depend on your household income, and can be up
to the full cost of your tuition fees. This is paid directly to
your place of study. Both loans will need to be paid back after
your have graduated and earning more than £15,000 a year.

If you normally live in England or Northern
Ireland
If you normally live in England or Northern Ireland you will be
eligible for a Student Loan which is composed of two parts -
maintenance loan and tuition fee loan. The maintenance loan is
available to cover living expenses. The amount you receive depends
on your household income and where you study. The money is paid
directly to you. The tuition fee loan pays for your tuition fees.
The amount you receive will depend on the university or college you
attend and also on the course you study, it does not depend on your
household income. This is paid directly to your place of study.
Both loans will need to be paid back after your have graduated and
earning more than £15,000 a year.
You can also apply for a Maintenance Grant to help cover the
cost of living, the value of which is dependent on your household
income and you will not have to repay this money. For 2010/2011 the
value of the grant is up to £2,906 for English students and £3,475
for Northern Ireland students.

If you normally live in Scotland you will be eligible for a

where you live when you study and what course you are studying. The
money is paid directly to you. The tuition fee loan pays for your
tuition fees. The amount you receive does not depend on your
household income. This is paid directly to your place of study.

If you normally live in an EU country outside the
UK
If you normally live in an EU country outside the UK and you
choose to study in Wales as a full time student you will be
eligible to apply for a Student Loan up to the full value of the
fees charged and this is paid direct to your college or
university.

Bursaries and Scholarships
Each year, the College also offers a number of entry
scholarships to outstanding music applicants on the basis of
auditions. Scholarships can be worth up to the full value of the
tuition fees.
The Welsh National Bursary is available to all UK full time
students who are studying in Wales. In the academic year 2010/11
the value of the Bursary is £329 and to qualify you must be paying
the maximum tuition fee of £3,290 and your household income is up
to £18,370 per annum.
