Living in Cardiff
Sport
Cardiff is a sports fans dream with the Millennium Stadium set
right in the heart of Cardiff, where you can watch international
football, rugby and even rallying.
Cardiff City Stadium is the second largest venue in Wales,
second to the Millennium Stadium, and is home of the Cardiff City
Football Team and Cardiff Blues rugby union team. The Stadium is
also used as a concert venue, the Stereophonics performed to a
sell-out crowd in June 2010 in the stadium's first gig. Located
opposite, is the Cardiff International Sports Stadium, an athletic
stadium which has a fully certificated international track &
field facilities.
The SWALEC Stadium cricket ground has a beautiful setting
bordering Bute Park and river Taff. The ground opened in 2008 after
a £9.5 million building project and was host to the Ashes Series in
2009. The ground has quickly established itself on a national scale
and plays host to Glamorgan CCC games, including the all action
Twenty20 matches during the summer months.
Want big sporting events - they don't come much bigger than
golf's Ryder Cup which is coming to South Wales in September and
October 2010. Newport's Celtic Manor Resort will see Europe vs USA
in what is arguably golf's largest global event.
Located in Cardiff Bay you will find a 50-metre Olympic standard
swimming pool, ice rink and white water canoeing and kayaking
centre at the International Sports Village.
