Cardiff is a compact and understated city but, like other capital cities across Europe, it plays host to a wonderful array of leisure and cultural attractions. As a devolved nation, Wales has a number of national institutions including our own Welsh Assembly, home of the Welsh Assembly Government, the Millennium Stadium, Welsh National Opera and the National Museum Cardiff. It is also home to broadcasters BBC Wales - producers of the ever popular Dr Who and Torchwood series - ITV Wales and S4C, the national Welsh Language channel. The Welsh language itself dates back to the sixth century and is spoken by just over a fifth of Welsh people.

Studying in the Welsh capital - Cardiff is a well established university city with Cardiff University, UWIC and the University of Glamorgan -  Cardiff campus, ATRiuM based around the city.

The Royal Bank of Scotland's 2006 Student Living Index ranked Cardiff as the most cost-effective place to study for financially savvy undergraduates. South Wales offers excellent value for money for visitors with the British Tourist Authority recently naming Cardiff as one of the best-value cities in the world. Food, entertainment, accommodation, and other day-to-day costs are much lower than in many other parts of the UK. Of course, as a student, you will also get lots of concessions on everything from cinema tickets to haircuts.

Whatever you're looking for, Cardiff caters for a wide variety of tastes and interests. Recently described as the 'epitome of cool, pulsing with a creative energy and relaxed atmosphere that complements its youthful heritage' in the latest edition of the Lonely Planet Guide to Great Britain, Cardiff continues to impress the thousands of visitors, students and residents that come here every year.
