One Year Full Time plus One Year Part Time
Starts January 2011

Includes the Postgraduate Diploma in Stage Management accredited by the National Council for Drama Training.

This is the first masters programme of its kind in the UK. This two year programme provides training in stage management and technical theatre and has been structured to maximise the opportunities you will have to work on live productions, placing this at the centre of your training.

The full time element of the course runs from January through to September, during which time you will be involved in a series of practical classes in stage management, technical studies (lighting and sound), stagecraft and event management. You will also begin your production work, usually taking a role on one of the College’s own productions such as a play, opera or musical theatre.

During the summer you will have the opportunity to work at the College’s own venue at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe or to undertake a professional work placement.

Between October and April you will undertake a further production option or work placement. Relevant paid employment is also an acceptable option as the basis for assessment at this stage.

On successful completion of the first year of study you will be awarded with the Postgraduate Diploma qualification, the only programme of its type which is accredited by the National Council for Drama Training.

You will then begin working on the second part of the masters, the Professional Practice Portfolio. This is a flexible, part time programme based within industry.

The College will assist you in finding suitable professional engagements as well as providing practical and academic support through ongoing mentoring either at the College or through distance learning methods. This allows you to choose employment within the UK or beyond. During your professional placement you will construct a reflective portfolio based on your experience. On completion, the portfolio will be submitted for the MA Stage Management award.
