RWCMD Junior Fellowship in Orchestral Leadership 2010 supported
by the Sir Charles Mackerras Scholarship in Orchestral
Leadership

The RWCMD Junior Fellowship scheme provides opportunities for
musicians of outstanding ability to train and work within the
artistic community of the college and beyond.
Fellowship holders receive professional guidance, performance
opportunities and support in return for their creative input into
the musical life of the college. Fellowships are normally tenable
for one academic year, but may exceptionally be renewed.
The 2010 Junior Fellowship in Orchestral Leadership is supported
by the Sir Charles Mackerras Scholarship in Orchestral Leadership
and is based on an agreement between RWCMD and the fellowship
holder:
- RWCMD will provide the fellowship holder with individual
tuition and coaching within an orchestral context. This will be
provided by John Stein and other experienced violinists with the
amount agreed at the outset of the fellowship period
- RWCMD will provide the fellowship holder with a bursary. The
amount to be agreed at the outset of the fellowship period
- RWCMD will provide the fellowship holder with appropriate
levels of professional guidance and support
- The fellowship holder will lead the evening performances to be
given by the RWCMD Symphony Orchestra during the academic year,
including full attendance at related rehearsals
- The fellowship holder will also lead the RWCMD Opera Orchestra
in performances in 2010, including full attendance at related
rehearsals
- The fellowship holder will lead the orchestra’s team of string
principals in preparing orchestral parts with bowings and
performance indications
