MPhil/PhD Music
Students can focus of their MPhil/PhD depending on the nature of
the research.
Performance
The distinctive feature about the MPhil/PhD programme is that it
focuses specifically on research relating to performance (in
music). Central to that is the opportunity to include performance
in the outcome whilst allowing sufficient flexibility for the
nature and extent of this to vary as appropriate to the specific
area of research. This means that your own musical practice must be
integral to this research.
Composition
Composers develop a portfolio of about eight substantial and
contrasting compositions. These are supported by a written analytic
and aesthetic commentary.
To apply, you should submit a portfolio of about three
contrasting compositions, with a short proposal, up to 600 words,
of what you plan to achieve.
