The Team
Head of Jazz Studies & Welsh Folk Music
Paula Gardiner
Originally trained in guitar and flute at RWCMD, Paula Gardiner
took up double bass at the age of 27 in order to explore her love
of jazz and improvised music. Paula’s CD recordings of her own
compositions, Hot Lament, 6 and Tales of Inclination, have been
widely celebrated and her work as bassist on further recordings is
internationally recognised. On top of several large commissions,
broadcast on Radios 3 and 4, and the development of jazz
composition for new theatre, Paula continues to place a strong
emphasis on live performance, appearing regularly on the club and
festival scenes, both in the UK and abroad. She is Honorary
President of Women in Jazz and a founder member of Wales Jazz
Composer.
