On 15 February Buddug Verona James (YAS Acting through Song Tutor) and Caradog Williams will perform songs by Lorca and de Falla in Theatr Pena’s 1pm lunchtime performance  Dark Love and Deep Song at The Riverfront, Newport. Directed by Hannah O'Leary, Kathryn Dimery, Erica Eirian (YAS Leader), Hannah O'Leary, Lisabeth Miles and Olwen Rees will perform readings from Lorca's poetry and plays.

 

YAS Acting Tutor Yvonne Murphy is directing a double bill of dark comedies at The Gate Arts Centre – The Alternative Valentine Event. Script in hand rehearsed readings of two new plays. The Salesman by Dominic Barker considers the natural progression of our consumer/Capitalist society where we are free to choose what to consume but not whether to consume. The Question Game by Dick Johns (another YAS Acting Tutor) is a comic, poignant and heartbreaking study of a relationships. YAS Acting student Abigail Fitzgerald has just been cast as a member of the ensemble in the National Theatre of Wales’s forthcoming production of A Provincial Life, a story by Anton Chekhov adapted and directed by Peter Gill. Rehearsals have just begun and the production will run from 1st-17th March at the Sherman Theatre, Cardiff.

 

YAS Acting student Jasmine Lenton is performing in her drama group’s two one act plays in Chapter Arts Centre on 7th March. She is also singing in the Cardiff County Youth Choir joining choirs from across Wales in the Music Nation Celebration Concert in St David’s Hall on 4th March. This celebratory concert will showcase young talent from across Wales as they perform side by side with BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales. The concert will culminate in the world premiere of Songs of the Earth, created especially for the Music Nation celebration weekend by Welsh composer Karl Jenkins.

 

YAS Theatre Workshop Group Tutor Julie Barclay is currently working as an actor with Sherman Cymru researching and developing a new script written and directed by YAS Tutor Louise Osborn called Maudie’s Rooms. In April, Julie will be directing Love In Plastic by Ian Rowlands for the Welsh Fargo Stage Company at venues in Cardiff, Newport and Swansea.

 

It has just been announced that The Indian Doctor Series 2 will be broadcast on BBC Daytime from 27th February. Erica Eirian (YAS Leader) and Naomi Everson (Ex-YAS student and current BA Acting student) reprise their roles as Sian Davies and Gina Nicolli (grandmother and grand-daughter) in this popular, RTS award winning, period comedy drama.

 

Later this year (late May/early June) Erica will be taking a little time out of YAS in order to direct Jean Genet’s The Maids for Theatr Pena.
