Lux Quintet

Lux Quintet – Wind Quintet

The Lux Quintet was formed in 2013 and it has already made a name for itself in South Wales and further afield. The ensemble has established itself by performing both core wind quintet repertoire and contemporary works in an ever growing list of performances and functions. The members all met at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama where they all currently study. They have a keen interest in contemporary music and are invested in expanding the wind quintet repertoire with recent commissions by contemporary Welsh composers. The ensemble is based in Cardiff and is committed to promoting Welsh music.

In the past year, the Lux Quintet has appeared at music societies and festivals across the UK, including a recital for the Chipping Campden Music Festival. A particular recent highlight has been a live broadcast at the Hay Festival as part of the BBC Radio 3 In Tune programme. The ensemble is looking to engagements over the next year taking them across the UK as far afield as Barletta, Italy. The Lux Quintet has been fortunate enough to receive coaching sessions with Roger Armstrong, Sarah Newbold, Pascal Gallois and Meyrick Alexander. It has also benefitted from working with leading chamber ensembles, the Mariinsky Theatre Wind Quintet and Ensemble MidtVest. The Lux Quintet members are all active chamber and orchestral musicians. Alongside their busy performance schedule, the ensemble also takes a keen interest in outreach and education work.
