Kaidi Shen

Kaidi Shen – Bass Baritone

Kaidi Shen, bass-baritone was born in Shanghai, China. He graduated from the Shanghai conservatory of Music in 2014 with Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. He studied with Guang Yang, who won the Cardiff Singer of the World Competition in 1997.

In July 2016, Kaidi graduated from the MA opera course at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, where he worked with Eric Roberts and Ingrid Surgenor.

During his course, he played the roles of Superintendant Budd in “Albert Herring”, Badger and Pastor in “The Cunning Little Vixen”, Bartolo in “Le Nozze di Figaro” and Pistola in “Falstaff”. Opera scenes included “Le Nozze di Figaro”, “Cosi fan tutte”, “Don Giovanni”.

Kaidi was awarded a Leverhulme Arts Scholarship to support his studies. He also won the Dorothy Davies Ingram Pontypridd Male Voice Choir Award and the Harlequin Agency Prize.

Kaidi returned to RWCMD in September 2016 to continue his studies in the Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Professional Performance.
