Francis Goodwin – Classical Piano

Born and raised in Southport, Francis first took an interest in music at around 10 years of age. After teaching himself to play, he gained a place to study Piano and Clarinet at the Junior Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester where he continued studying for 7 years under Manola Hatfield, Ben Powell and Heather Gordon-Redfern. Francis went on to pursue his studies at RWCMD with Pianist Graham Caskie and has since participated in masterclasses with Nelson Goerner, Stephen Kovacevich, Zhang Zuo, Roman Rabinovich, Llŷr Williams and Cordelia Williams.

In 2014, Francis was the winner of the Eric Hodges Beethoven Prize and was also a finalist in the Mary Rees Chopin Competition. Alongside his studies Francis has a keen interest in arts management. He is the shadow chair of the concert series Profile Piano, organising piano recitals in Cardiff, and in July 2016 he was the assistant director of the Young Virtuosi Festival in Languedoc Roussillon, Southern France.
