Emyr Wyn Jones - Bass Baritone

Hailing from Aberdare in the South Wales Valleys, Emyr studies on the MA Opera Performance course under Eric Roberts at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. Although a relative newcomer to singing, Emyr has a wealth of acting experience and graduated with a First Class Honours degree in Vocal Studies from RWCMD.

A HRH Prince of Wales Scholar, Emyr has also been awarded the Dame Shirley Bassey Scholarship, the Lee Freeman Memorial Prize, an Allcard Award from the Worshipful Company of Musicians and a Sibyl Tutton Award from Help Musicians UK. He also holds the 2014 South Glamorgan Music Festival Young Recital Award and the title of Best Actor at the 2013 Ffresh Film Awards.

Emyr has performed in many roles including Collatinus in The Rape of Lucretia, Minksman in Flight, Papageno in The Magic Flute, Don Alfonso in Cosi Fan Tutti (all for RWCMD); Mars in Orpheus in the Underworld (Opera’r Ddraig), Benoit / Alcindoro in La Boheme (St Endellion Festival, Cornwall) and Ben Benny / Cover Hel Helson in Paul Bunyan (Welsh National Youth Opera). He has performed the Baritone solos of Handel’s Messiah at the Wales Millennium Centre, Fauré Requiem, Salieri Requiem, and Karl Jenkins’ Armed Man. Concert highlights include a special St David’s Day concert for HRH the Prince of Wales, Warlock in Wales, a tribute to Peter Warlock for the British Warlock Society, and with the CBSO for a Last Night of the Proms concert at Birmingham Symphony Hall.

Projects in 2015 include the role of Sid in the RWCMD production Albert Herring, and performing in a new Welsh language Opera commission from Wlesh National Opera, Gair ar Gnawd, to be televised on S4C.
