Allard-Wong Duo - Violin & Piano Duo
Canadian-born Simon-Philippe Allard studies violin at the Royal
Welsh College of Music & Drama with David Adams while taking a
sabbatical from his current position as Assistant Principal Second
Violin in Symphony Nova Scotia, Canada, where he has been since
2004. He had his first violin lesson at the age of five and later
obtained degrees in Violin Performance from McGill University and
Université de Montréal. Simon-Philippe has been playing
professionally for 20 years and has significant orchestral
experience. Following successful auditions he was admitted to the
placement schemes at the Welsh National Opera Orchestra and the BBC
National Orchestra of Wales. He recently founded the Taff String
Quartet with other students and formed a duo with pianist Melanie
Wong. A classical musician at heart, he is nonetheless open to
exploring different styles and during his time in Halifax was
member of a traditional Celtic band.
Melanie Wong is a postgraduate student of the Royal Welsh
College of Music & Drama, specializing in Piano Accompaniment.
She has studied with many well-known accompanists such as Benjamin
Frith, Simon Lepper, and Joseph Middleton. She is an active
musician and has 7 years’ experience of teaching and performing.
She does not limit herself to teaching piano; she is also a violin
teacher and a choral conductor. Known as a quick learner and good
sight reader, she is highly sought after as a rehearsal pianist for
auditions, and for language and opera classes at RWCMD. She has
also been a regular choral accompanist for more than 10 years. She
has recently participated in competitions with instrumentalists and
vocalists in both Cardiff and London.
