Alis Huws & Carys Gittins

Alis Huws & Carys Gittins - Harp & Flute Duo

Carys and Alis are a Flute and Harp duo, established in 2013. Winners of the 2015 McGrennery Chamber Music Prize, this duo has a wealth of experience playing at functions, weddings and recitals. They performed for the Welsh Assembly Members as part of the Senedd’s Royal Opening in 2016, and have performed at venues such as the National Museum of Wales, Wales Millennium Centre and Cardiff Castle. As artists on the Music in Hospitals Scheme, Carys and Alis enjoy outreach work in the community, often playing for dementia patients and those with special needs.

Originally from Mid Wales, Carys and Alis grew up competing against each other in various Eisteddfods at both local and national level. They are both past members of The National Youth Orchestra of Wales, and have benefitted from experiences playing alongside Welsh National Opera on placement schemes.

As individuals, Carys and Alis enjoy playing as soloists. Winner of The Ken Smith Flute Prize (Sponsored by TopWind) 2015 and 2016, Carys was a finalist in the 2015 Frank Kelleher Woodwind Prize and has also recorded for a Volkswagen advertisement. Alis was the recipient of the 2015 Royal Welch Fusiliers Harp Prize, and was selected as a soloist for the Mervyn Burtch Memorial Concert in the Dora Stoutzker Hall. In October 2016, Alis performed in Japan to promote Welsh culture as part of Hankyu’s British Fair.
