After playing the lead role of Tony in the college's production of West Side Story during the final year of his Acting course in 2008, Aneurin landed one of the three lead roles in the West End musical Spring Awakening. In 2010, he won a Laurence Olivier award for his performance, beating off competition from established actors like Rowan Atkinson and Bob Golding in the category for Best Actor in a Musical.

Big screen roles followed, including Ironclad with Paul Giammatti and Derek Jacobi. He also plays a lead role in musical drama Hunky Dory alongside Minnie Driver and fellow RWCMD graduate Kimberley Nixon.

On television Aneurin has appeared in Doctors, Casualty and Shameless.
