Stage Management Students will be Virtually Walking on Air
Stage management teaching will be revolutionised within the
college now that The Richard Burton Theatre has had a 'tension wire
grid' fitted in its roof space.
Woven from steel wire rope, the tension wire
grid provides a safe, strong, high level access platform at loft
level. Virtually invisible from the floor, the grid casts no
shadows and provides safe and permanent access to lighting.
Situated in the roof space at the top of the theatre, the platform
creates a high level and completely safe floor.
Ian Evans, Senior Lecturer in Stage Management is delighted, "It
means that we can focus on teaching the intricacies of lighting in
close proximity with the students." He goes on to explain, "It
eliminates the need for lighting gantries and fixed position
walkways. We can now teach safely and effectively, rather than
standing up a ladder and shouting down to our students! As a
teaching tool it’s going to be brilliant, we’ll be able to have
many more students, working and observing together, while actually
on a virtual ‘ceiling’."
