Sainsbury Foundation Donates First Gift to Fund-raising
Campaign
The Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama is delighted to
receive the first external donation of £250,000 to its fund-raising
Campaign, A Stage for Success, from the Linbury Trust. The
Campaign is raising funds towards the College’s £22.5 million
redevelopment project scheduled to open in 2010.
This landmark development on the College's
historic site will deliver world class training facilities,
enabling the College to attract the best students from Wales, the
UK and internationally to study in Cardiff. It will also
provide increased opportunities for local performing arts
organisations to access training and promote their own work in
state-of-the-art performance spaces.
Hilary Boulding, Principal of the Royal Welsh
College, said: 'This is a wonderful endorsement of our plans from a
major UK foundation and will help enormously in our discussions
with other funders as we progress the Campaign. We’re indebted to
Lord and Lady Sainsbury and thrilled to have their support for the
project which is so critical to the future success of the
College.'
Patron Bryn Terfel commented: 'It is fabulous
news and a great incentive to the Stage for Success
fundraising Campaign which we launched in November. This is an
impressive and important project for our capital
city and we are incredibly grateful to the Linbury Trust
for this generous gift. Let’s hope it’s the first of many.'
The College has a long-standing association
with the Linbury Trust through its involvement in the Linbury
Biennial Prize for Stage Design in which Royal Welsh College
students have always excelled.
