Welsh Assembly Government Funding Helps to Set Up New Student
Company at Royal Welsh College
Entrepreneurial students at the Royal Welsh College of Music
& Drama have just been awarded funding, geared to promote youth
entrepreneurship, from the Welsh Assembly Government to start up a
student-led Repertory Company.
The new student enterprise project means that
established student organisational activities, including Opera’r
Ddraig, Sinfonia Newydd and the SU (Student Union) Orchestra, will
come together to operate under the single banner of
RepCo - Repertory by Entrepreneurial Performers
Company. The company will also include a Chamber Orchestra and a
Community Choir.
Based on a social enterprise model, the new student led arts
company means that those involved in the projects will learn ‘on
the job’ by running a real business, as well as providing support
and guidance for performances. They will benefit from advice from
internal and external experts and advisors from both the arts and
business.
A ‘board of directors’ will be established and the funding also
covers some student interns to help to organise the new
company.
