The Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama has received a huge boost this month with the news that two major foundations have offered substantial grants towards its £22.5m Capital Development Project. The Garfield Weston Foundation will be supporting the project with a grant of £250,000 while the Wolfson Foundation has offered a grant of £50,000.

“This is great news for the College and an important step towards our aim of dramatically improving the facilities both for our students and for the wider public” said Hilary Boulding, Principal at the Royal Welsh College. “We are delighted that the Garfield Weston Foundation and the Wolfson Foundation are both able to support this important project and that they too share our ambition to see these new facilities take shape for the benefit of generations to come.”

Work has already started on the development to create a suite of world-class training and performance facilities in a landmark building on the College’s campus in Cardiff’s city centre. The College’s existing site will be transformed by a bold design, bringing a new Concert Hall, Theatre, Acting & Movement Studios and an Exhibition Gallery to complement the College’s existing training and performance facilities.

Hilary Boulding added “This prestigious development on the College’s historic site will enable us to attract the best students from Wales, the UK and internationally to study in Cardiff. It will also provide increased opportunities for local performing arts organisations to access training and promote their own work in state-of-the-art performance spaces.”
