Royal Welsh College and Major Utility to Work Together

Major gas distribution business, Wales & West
Utilities has become the community partner of the
Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama,
supporting the College and its students in delivering over 300
Community Outreach projects throughout Wales every year.
Wales & West Utilities will be specifically involved in four
of the College’s key community projects: Community Concert
Parties, interactive concerts within a variety of
community venues, the Schools Opera, working with
primary schools throughout Wales, Interactive music
workshops, introducing children to rhythm and composition,
and the National Theatre of Wales student experience
programme, enabling students to extend their coursework
and training by attending NTW productions.
Wales & West Utilities will use the College’s extensive
outreach programme to promote its key gas safety message and its
Silent Killer campaign, highlighting the dangers of Carbon
Dioxide poisoning to vulnerable groups in the community.

Project supporter Arts & Business Cymru,
recognising the positive impact of this partnership on the
community, is keen to encourage the relationship between the
College and Wales & West Utilities. Arts & Business Cymru
have provided funding to enable the extension of the activity to a
fifth project and to allow Wales & West Utilities staff to
become involved and extend their own involvement within the
community.
This innovative partnership highlights the effectiveness of
collaboration between business and arts organisations. It will
support the College in delivering vital outreach workshops, as well
as enable Wales & West Utilities to promote key safety messages
to its target groups: students, young people, older people, and
vulnerable people, in a fun and accessible way, at community
workshops, through leafleting and face to face communication.
Royal Welsh College Principal Hilary Boulding said, "We’re
delighted at forming this new relationship with Wales & West
and very excited at being able to develop an innovative way of
delivering the partnership, which reflects both organisations
commitment to community support."
Jackie Roe, Head of Corporate Affairs for Wales & West
Utilities was delighted with the collaboration and the added
support from Arts & Business Cymru.
‘This is an ideal match for our business in
bringing important safety messages to people in a very positive and
effective way. This partnership with the Royal Welsh College forms
part of our ongoing gas emergency service awareness programme
throughout Wales and the South West of England.’
