Opera North Opening for Soprano Stephanie

Graduate Stephanie Corley took to the stage in Leeds last night for the opening night of The Merry Widow. Stephanie plays the title role in Opera North’s latest production of Lehar’s masterpiece.

After undergraduate and postgraduate studies in RWCMD’s vocal and opera studies department, Stephanie attended the National Opera Studio. She was a prize winner at the Clonter Opera Prize and W Towyn Roberts scholarship event at the National Eisteddfod, and a finalist in the Emmy Destinn and Veronica Dunn singing competitions.

The Merry Widow - image by Alastair MuirHer past opera performances have included Musetta in LaBohème for Scottish Opera on Tour, Pamina in Die Zauberflöte and Marzelline in Fidelio at the Glyndebourne Festival and Ines at Il Trovatore for Opera Holland Park.

Talking about her latest role, Stephanie said: “I hope that I will be able to do the character of Hanna justice, but I have no doubt that all the wonderfully talented people involved will make this the best show possible.”

The production also has another Welsh connection – the conductor is Swansea-born Wyn Davies.
