Opera North Opening for Soprano Stephanie
Graduate Stephanie Corley took to the stage in Leeds last night
for the opening night of The Merry Widow. Stephanie plays
the title role in Opera North’s latest production of Lehar’s
masterpiece.

After undergraduate and postgraduate studies in RWCMD’s vocal and opera studies department, Stephanie
attended the National Opera Studio. She was a prize winner at the
Clonter Opera Prize and W Towyn Roberts scholarship event at the
National Eisteddfod, and a finalist in the Emmy Destinn and
Veronica Dunn singing competitions.
Her past opera performances have included Musetta in
LaBohème for Scottish Opera on Tour, Pamina in Die
Zauberflöte and Marzelline in Fidelio at the
Glyndebourne Festival and Ines at Il Trovatore for Opera
Holland Park.
Talking about her latest role, Stephanie said: “I hope that I
will be able to do the character of Hanna justice, but I have no
doubt that all the wonderfully talented people involved will make
this the best show possible.”
The production also has another Welsh connection – the conductor
is Swansea-born Wyn Davies.
